The American Israel Numismatic Association was founded in 1967 as a non-profit educational organization under the laws of The State of New York dedicated to the study and appreciation of Israel’s numismatics, past and present, and all aspects of Judaic and Holy Land numismatics. AINA is a non-sectarian democratically organized, membership oriented group, whose primary purpose is the study and appreciation of the coins, medals, paper money, tokens, etc. of Israel and the Holy Land, past and present, and all aspects of Judaic numismatics.
AINA publishes The Shekel, The Journal of Israel and Jewish History and Numismatics four times a year. It is an illustrated magazine prepared for the enlightenment and entertainment of the membership by talented writers from around the world.
AINA awards the Shekel Prize annually to the best publication on the subject of Ancient Judaean, Holy Land, Israel, or Jewish Numismatics.
AINA’s annual meeting is held at the convention of the American Numismatic Association, usually in August.
AINA issues a medal each year that is sent free to all members.
